- To encourage exceptional medical students to pursue lives as physician-scientists and professional leaders
- To conduct clinical research in the prevention and treatment of digestive diseases
Our model:
- To pair and support exceptional medical students and leading physician-scientists during a scholarly year of full-time, collaborative research within the specialty of gastroenterology
- To immerse students in a clinical practice/research setting alongside a carefully-selected role model
- To engage private donors in support of our mission
- To collaborate with academic deans from leading university medical centers
Why digestive diseases?
- Digestive diseases impact the lives of 60-70 million Americans
- Many digestive diseases are disabling, incurable and/or fatal
- The economic impact of digestive diseases is estimated to be $107 billion annually in the United States alone
